History

The birth of Candy Apple’s Dance Center began in 1988.  Owner, operator, instructor Cathy Nesbitt-Stein teamed up with another dancer from the area to develop a full service dance studio offering Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Acrobatics.  The studio was first located on West Tusc.  in Canton.  As plans began to unfold the name of the studio was to be Maggie Apple’s Dance Center in honor of Stein’s first dance instructor.  Construction and remodeling started in early June with an opening date of September 6, 1988.  It was decided a cartoon of a cute and pert little girl sitting on an apple would become the iconic logo which became very recognizable.  Weeks before the doors were to open the tribute name of Maggie Apple’s fell through and a new name similar had to accommodate the already established logo.  Candy Apple’s Dance Center was born!  Now over twenty-five years in the business; the dance center has moved to their current location on 20th and Whipple in Jackson township, housing four dance rooms, has had the cartoon logo revamped and has taught, coached and mentored thousands of budding dancers.  Today the studio is one of the most respected dance centers in the country and offers Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Jumps and Turns, Hip Hop, Acro/Tumbling, Baton, Conditioning, Pre-School and Mommy and Me as well as Ballet and Tap enhancement classes.  With alumni dancing on cruise ships, theme parks, professional dance teams such as the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York City Knicks , the faculty continues to train dancers and win countless of top overall honors and accolades including Choreography Awards with the most recent being given to Stein for her choreography in a junior contemporary piece “Home on the Range”.  Other honors have included video of the week awards and recently dancers performing in the televised Christmas Special for Dance Moms and participating in Cabaret for Cause in New York.  From New York to Canton’s Christmas Spectacular “Light Up Downtown” Candy Apple’s Dance Center remains a leader in the industry and not only provides wonderful instruction but Serious Fun!
